The Petai Invasion

Follow Up - the day we were supposed to fly back home , the typhoon hit Hong Kong , it was quite hard and was a little worried if the flight got delayed or worst still , cancelled , which I can't afford to extend my hols or I have to do replacement classes to the school , so prayed to God , and grateful enough , the typhoon weakened , hitched a taxi from the hotel to the airport , arrived there more than enough time , had lustiful lunch ( Chinese ., of course ! ) and soon we were on board.

the strong wind and hard rain surrounding the hotel

far out - can't see almost anything - with strong wind gushing like mad !

One funny thing during this trip was what I called ' The Petai Invasion '.....knowing that petai (s) are the most stinkiest food or bean ( put durians aside ) but the most delicious when eaten which any South East Asian can't resist , and since you can't get it on this side of the world or even H.Kong , I requested a friend to bring it over from Singapore.First , she said it was verrry ,verry smelly !!! Then she bought a bag pruposely just to put the petais so that she could take it on the plane and on top of it , she triple wrapped it with Ziplock ! Anyway , it arrived H.K. and was immediately passed to me because she can't bear the small in her room. And me...I was of course very glad .Then we moved to another hotel , carried the petais along with us and the whole taxi smelled of petai - but I pretended I don't know anything ! Checked in at the next hotel , the smell is still there...as the bell boy trolleyed our baggages , the whole corrridor smelled with this new brand of perfume...and still...I pretended nothing happened ! And to make the story short , I brought it back home - my most savioured petai - intact.

Many things can be done with petai - cooked or eat it raw or the best....

with a sambal - chilli paste fried and shrimp paste fried with petai...

Guangzhou Discovered....

I went to Beijing Road last night just to see what's going on - they say it's like a night market - which actually is not - but full of people but what interests me was in the middle of the street there are ruins of old streets during the Ming , Tang and Yuan Dynasty.
It was discovered in 2002 , right underneath the present street , when some of the workers were doing some repairs on the pedestrian mall.
According to local folklores , the City of Guangzhou become more prosperous after the discovery as some old people believe the discovery of the old street is the ' opening ' of the Dragon and it's Gate. But if you go to economic reports too , the city's economy soars from the beginning of 2002 and until now is one of the busiest industrial and business city in China....more interesting infos about Guangzhou

the present street - above - and the discovered street - below and it is below the present street

I'll move to HK tommorow morning by train and hopefully the coming typhoon won't disrupt our plans..

Guangzhou as it is.....Part 2

First of all , I didn't know that blogs are blocked in China on the base of political and safety of the country. It's the first time I updated my blog in this country the other day , never did I realised that I can edit , change and update my blog ( for viewers and readers outside this country ) but I CANNOT view it ! I made a quick search on the internet and seems that any blogs , Wordpress , Typepad are blocked by the Great Firewall of China.I have no complain as I respect each country's rules and law , as long as I can keep updating it for my readers elsewhere.

This time just more pictures - the outdoor cafe at the hotel

one of the restaurant staff preparing the dinner buffet - fresh seafood !

I found my favourite - Hainanese Chicken Rice - with steamed chicken !

Tomoko had the dumplings with vegetables in chicken soup and Singapore Curry Laksa

Li Wan Plaza - a typical shopping mall in the city .....

and the typical weekdays crowd - these people really knows how to enjoy life - which I envy them !

a seafood yakitori - chinese style - semi fried in hot spicy oil

the water features outside the hotel - also acts as a fence

one more ....and bigger one

next posting - I discovered Guangzhou's secret -
